The Astramira or "Wondering Stars" (2021)

As with much of my music, my visual art (ink, acrylic) is drawn from my dreamwork practice. This is best represented in the "Wondering Stars" exhibition, which took place at Greensboro Project Space during the summer of 2021. This project, born during the peak of the pandemic, gave me the space and focus to develop a stronger foundation for everything which has emerged since. And in many respects, it saved my life. In my own small way, I seek to nurture and celebrate the Mystery in return. Visual art, music, and poetry are my primary vehicles for doing so. And all three media share the same vocabulary of figures and symbols, drawn from a series of enigmatic and inspiring dreams which I repeatedly return to through emblematic meditations. I call this practice, and the geometric emblems it is based on, the astramira or "wondering stars." Though I do not adhere to any one spiritual tradition, since childhood I've been rooted in a mystical perspective. And aspects of Jungian dreamwork, divination, spiritual alchemy (via Jacob Boehme), and Pythagorean poetics ("music of the spheres") are almost always at play in my art by natural affinity. But the dream is my guide. And at its best, my work is a child to wonder :)
