This scarcely-regarded 1851 essay by the Poughkeepsie Seer and Harmonial philosopher Andrew Jackson Davis is being reissued to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (July 4th, 2026). This essay offers one of the clearest introductions to Davis' "Harmonial" philosophy and an impassioned critique of religious dogma and errant power that still feels fresh today.

This is a limited edition, saddle-stapled, laser-printed booklet with a handprinted linocut cover. It also includes a 10-page introduction by AMP director Matt Marble which contextualizes Davis' writing, both defending his work from misplaced maligning while critiquing the racial paradox situated in his Harmonial vision, as well as in the original Declaration of Independence and the American psyche itself.

The first ten copies will include an original relief print of the Seventh Angel of the Apocalypse, printed from a rare early twentieth-century reproduction plate after an image in the Ephrata Cloister’s ABC Book (1750). One of the earliest mystical communities in colonial America, the Ephrata press later printed the first German-language edition of the Declaration of Independence. In Revelation, the Seventh Angel heralds not another plague, but the fulfillment of a new divine order.

The first month of sales will be donated to the NorthStar Church, a sanctuary for marginalized creatives and those who bear witness, in Durham, North Carolina:
